Moving Images Analysis

The Trailer that I've chosen to analyse is The Avengers Assemble, which would be classified as an action-thriller.The trailer contains Samuel L. Jackson as a  very stern actor-who's accompanied by very deep instrumental music in the trailer .The turning point in this trailer occurs when Samuel L.Jackson states "It's called the avengers initiative" After he states that the music turns extremely fast-paced.This trailer contains all of the conventions that an action-thriller would have such as:Guns,Fighting and explosions.
Below is the link to the trailer.Enjoy!

Magazine Analysis

Title of publication – placed in the top third so that it is easily visible, particularly when stacked with other magazines in limited shelf space. Note the distinctive typeface (or font) – in time, this becomes established as the magazine’s logo and, once sufficiently well known, can be partially obscured by the cover image – allowing both for design flexibility and a knowing sense of recognition on the part of the ‘loyal’ audience.
Slogan – a short, catchy statement or phrase, intended to ‘sum-up’ the magazine’s image and to stick in the reader’s mind.
Central image – most magazines tend to employ a single, strong central image which serves to ‘anchor’ the cover i.e. provide it with weight and focus, and help establish the magazine’s core values and identity. When using human models, the designer will be careful not to obscure the mouth or eyes, as they are the most expressive part of the face. It is interesting to note that magazines aimed at both males and female audiences commonly use female cover models – the difference will usually lie in the way in which the model is ‘addressing’ the gaze of the camera.
‘Flash’ – once the cover is anchored by the image, text will be strategically placed around it so as to advertise the contents of the magazine. Usually, there will be one larger ‘flash’ and a series of smaller ones. The larger one will often be placed in the bottom left quarter of the cover and frequently connects with the central image. This is an example of a ‘convention’ – a common device to which the audience have become accustomed and whose ‘sense’ they take for granted.
Free offer – magazines sometimes come with small gifts or product ‘promotions’ attached. A short message will alert the reader in case the object has gone missing! To be effective, these gifts need to be closely targeted at the magazine’s core consumers.

Colour scheme – in order to avoid a cover becoming too ‘busy’ and therefore difficult to ‘decode’, designers tend to stick to a limited colour scheme. Certain colours are generally felt to work well together and to provide a particular ‘vibe’ – oranges, reds and pinks are warm and ‘fun’; blues, greens and blacks are cool and fresh. There are no absolutely hard and fast rules regarding colour – red, for example, depending on the context, can suggest ‘danger’, ‘boldness’, ‘passion’, ‘sex’, ‘heat’ or ‘energy’ or a combination of them all. Experienced designers develop a ‘feel’ for the way colour works – their skill lies in combining colours effectively to create an impression that might ‘feel’ right but be extremely difficult to place into words.

Name/Game Checks – the name checks (or game checks) on the front cover act as a clear indicator of the ‘cultural territory’ on which the magazine focuses. These names act like signposts to map out the region in which the magazine is interested. Note that, in this issue of 360, only the main game review is featured. However, four other games are alluded to along the bottom of the magazine – those readers who recognise those references will feel they ‘belong’ to the magazine and will enjoy deciphering the clues.

Language - the language employed on the cover is also significant. It will be snappy and ‘economical’, with no wasted or unnecessary words. Often quasi-poetical devices will be used – puns, plays on words, metaphors, alliteration and so on. The idea is to interest and intrigue the audience in as short a ‘read-time’ as possible. The vocabulary chosen will reflect the TA and will often be chosen so as to ‘reward’ them for understanding it – specialist terms or slang words help to make the reader feel more intimate with the magazine: we both speak the same language; we’re all part of the same gang!

Most often, covers will only employ one or two different typefaces, varying the effect by using different point sizes and bold & italics. Too many different typefaces tend to make the cover feel disorganised and lacking in focus. Some typefaces come in ‘families’, giving several versions with different weights or modified formats e.g.
Eras Light, Medium, Demi and Bold
Using one of these families can provide for a tidy, harmonious feeling.
Competitions – competitions and other opportunities to win prizes are a further way of ‘seducing’ the reader. Quizzes and questionnaires can also serve to ‘draw readers in’ and make them feel more personally involved with the publication. These are an example of ‘interactivity’.

Direct Address & Asking Questions – magazine covers frequently address their readers as ‘YOU’, as if they were in direct communication with them. By asking a question of their readers (“Could YOU be a movie star?”, “Which Atomic Kitten do YOU fancy?”), magazine covers give the impression of opening a dialogue that can only be continued by purchasing the publication.

Bar code, Date and Price – for straightforward selling purposes, all commercial magazines need this information on their cover. However, most designers will consider them an encumbrance and will make them as small and inconspicuous as possible, so as not to compromise the ‘integrity’ of their compositional work.

Camera Work Reaseach

                                                          Camera Work Reaseach

Establishing Shot-The Establishing shot is generally a long or extreme long shot. This type of shot is usually for 2 To 3 seconds-long enough for the viewer to appreciate the shot. This Kind of shot is usually accompanied by Dramatic music. This Shot is usually at the beginning of film to set the scene.

Long Shot-The Long Shot is usually referred to as: Full-shot, Extreme Full-Shot and wide shot. Frequently used to show the full image and a bit of the surroundings. Long shot are target to what would be the Front row of the audience.

Medium Shot- The difference between a long shot and a medium shot is that the medium shot is fuzzy" and as is the line between "medium shot" and "close-up". The Medium shot is the most frequent shot. A shot of the person from the knees up or the waist up is a close-up shot. In other texts, these partial views are called medium shots. (For example, in Europe a medium shot is framed from the waist up). It is mainly used for a scene when you can see what kind of expressions they are using.

Over The Shoulder
The Over the shoulder shot is taken from somebody’s shoulder. This shot is often used to show something that could change the movie or a discussion. This shot is often followed by an establishing shot which I’ve Analysed above.
Close-Up
A close up of a character is usually of their faces to show their emotional state or happiness or lack of it. It’s used it TV to show somebody's reaction to an incident this shot is used so that the viewer of the film or movie feels the same emotion.
High Angle
The High Angle shot is used to make the person feel vulnerable or to add the whole setting for the viewer. This shot is classically used to show the villain being more superior to the hero to add a dramatic feeling to the scene.

Print Analysis (Liar)

This Is my Print That I've Chosen to Analyse:

The Language used in this is very cliche.Love,Love,Life are considered by many is the key reasons to happiness. The font used in this is minuscule in comparison to the main title. The alliteration is used to make the
heading a bit more memorable.

The Institution   That N-Dubz are signed to is Def Jam,Which also has the likes of Rihanna and Ne-yo signed to their label.Def Jam are considered as one of the best record label in the U.S.In addition Def jam is owned by the universal Music Group.

The Audience of this is Primarily 15-21 years. This is due to N Dubz being a relatively young band. Furthermore the use of the Love.Live.Life sub-heading intensify the age group due to 15 And 21 year old's having their whole life Ahead of them therefore should love, live life.

Their are numerous Representations in this image. The main focus being Tulisa posing as a lovestruck damsel in distress suggesting that the audience would be lovestruck by their music. Furthermore,Fazer poses as I don't care way his hand is near his face suggesting that people who don't like N-Dubz aren't welcome.Lastly Dappy is showing a little bit of his body and is holding his sunglasses.Suggesting that this is serious.

HSBC AD

Below is the work I did on 12/9/12 using Photoshop.I chose Passion as the sub-heading to show how much different meanings a work had therefore mimic the original advertisement by HSBC banking group. Many People have passion to succeed to sport and education and several people are passionate for each-other.
Upon  reflection I think that I could of improved this by changing the middle picture to an graduation image instead of an unclear picture. Furthermore I could of made the lines bigger and even on both sides.

Work Assessment 7/9/12

In this lesson we had to create a magazine cover with my table. We chose to make a magazine called Political
F.M.We came up with an idea to chose controversial stars like:Lowkey,Mic Righteous,Akala and  The Narcicyst because they rap about Tragedy's,Corruption and war and Lies. We Illustrated this by making a rip   in the magazine cover.

Our magazine is designed to show the truth no matter what circumstances. We had originally did this using a computer and a website called pixl.co.uk.But due to the incapability of the software to save the image we lost it and re-did it on a pc

Why I chose Media

I chose Media Studies to develop my understanding of the media and how it works.I also chose media because I plan to have a Future in Advertising and I Think media studies provides me with the platform to do that. Furthermore I Intend to pick media studies as an A-Level to continue the Knowledge I would of gained by the Gcse course. In addition I Aim and will get an a star in this subject and I Am eager and willing to do what it takes to do that.
